2024 Gift Guide
1) Clare Anderson Ceramics - Mini Stem Cube Bundle
I first came across Clare’s work at Pollen Market in Sheffield, where I picked up a gorgeous little vase with faceted sides which takes pride of place on a shelf in my living room. A frequent visitor to Open House - a new ish cafe in Hathersage which Clare stocks, I’m coming across her ceramics more & more which is no bad thing! The dried flower displays you can create using different shapes of these flower cubes (they have rings and larger blocks in the cafe) are just stunning. Handily, you can buy the small blocks singularly too, which make for great gifts.
2) Lilli Rose Knitwear - Chunky Merino Wool Bobble Hat
Beautifully soft knitwear made by Lilli who happens to be based at the other YAS site in Sheffield - Exchange Place Studios. I bought one of these lovely hats for myself back in 2022 at a Christmas market, and my mum was so taken with it I bought one for her the year after! The detachable bobble is absolutely brilliant!
3) Trupig Vegan - Classic Mixed Truffle Box
The ultimate cruelty-free chocolatiers in Sheffield, making exquisite treats with big flavours without the scary dairy, etc. Don’t be put off by all the ‘sold out’ labels in their shop - everything is made in very small batches (and they’re very popular), so register your interest & eagerly await the ‘in stock’ message to pop into your inbox.
4) Holly Suzanna Clifford - Spring Petal Cascade Necklace
My alter ego! This art jewellery is what you’ll find me crafting when I’m not making maps. This necklace is a new piece with an awesome sense of movement, as each detailed petal section is connected with a swivelling rivet. Matching earrings also available!
5) Rosanna Reade - Vegetable Parade Prints
I came across Rosanna at Great Northern in Manchester the other month, where these little dancing veggies captured my heart a little bit - aren’t they great!? You can buy them singly too. I now have a desire to have them on tiles, so I can re-decorate my kitchen with them…
6) Bob Bernard - Greetings cards pack
Since becoming a member of Peak District Artisans, I have absolutely fallen in love with Bob’s paintings. His stylised, impressionistic way of documenting landscapes combined with a beautiful use of colour makes everything he produces a bit of a showstopper. Obviously, if you’ve the budget for it - make a trip to the Derwent Gallery in Grindleford to select an original (it’s on my list to someday!), but if not, in the meantime why not pick up a pack of greetings cards.
7) Contour Map Collection - Sheffield / Peak District National Park A4 prints
I might be biased, but I do think that these lovely metallic copper prints of the contours of the Peaks & Sheffield make for wonderful gifts for people who love these places. Printed on recycled white card, this wall art glints when it catches the light just like metal. Free postage within the UK, to sweeten the deal.
8) Coralie Turpin - Sardine Tin Workshop
A fellow YAS studio holder at Persistence Works, Coralie is well renowned in Sheffield and the region for her incredible mosaics. As well as creating beautiful, and often enormous public art pieces, she also welcomes people into her workshop every week for classes, where they happily spend hours learning the craft, creating their own special mosaics for the garden or kitchen splashback. If you’re local, check out her in person workshops - but if not, she offers ‘sardine tin mosaic’ workshops which include a virtual tutorial.
9) Harriet Eccleston - Powerful Pocket Sweatshirt
Based in Sheffield’s Kelham Island is Harriet, a tailor creating expertly crafted, timeless designs to order. The piece of hers I’ve picked is from a collection inspired by Suffragette's forbidden pockets and the power they carry; “Someone once said, permitting driven women with a common cause pockets in their garments, would give them opportunity to spread sedition. Thankfully they did so that we can too.”
I also really love her Peak District sweatshirt.
10) Angus Wood Blacksmith - Whale Bottle opener
Angus is another maker who I discovered whilst at Great Northern this year. His stand was brimming with really thoughtfully made steelware, and I couldn’t resist picking up a dainty little hand forged ginkgo leaf decoration myself. One of 3 makers in this list not based in the steel city (ironically), Angus calls a very picturesque cider farm in the Devon countryside home. For the gift list I’ve picked this whale bottle opener, as it brought a smile to my face.

11) Harvey Maps - Peak District Playing Cards
The only business in this years’ gift list whose staff numbers more than one! Although they’re not a small business, I saw these Peak District playing cards and thought - you know what, these would be really excellent to play with on weekends away with running pals.
You’re probably well versed with what Harvey Maps are about - but if you’ve only ever navigated using OS until now - let me open your eyes. The colours are brighter, and they feel less cluttered than OS, so you might find them easier to read. They’re waterproof as standard, whilst being super lightweight & durable - plus you can get really useful map sections which cover just the area you need - especially helpful if you’re running and don’t want to whack out an enormous foldy job, or just have small pockets! They also do specific maps for fell races and other events - which is how I came across them. I’m not sponsored or anything, I just wish I had known about them sooner, so love to pass the knowledge on!
