Bringing the Outdoors In – A Collaboration with Photographer Alec Brown

Recently, I had the joy of collaborating with Alec Brown — an old school friend turned incredibly talented outdoor photographer, now based in Edinburgh. Alec has built his name photographing outdoor brands in wild and windswept places, but he’s now expanding his portfolio to include craftspeople whose work brings elements of the outdoors inside — a crossover that felt like a perfect match for my practice.

We spent a day out in the Peak District, shooting in some of my favourite spots: along the rugged edges of Stanage and Bamford. Alec captured me running, identifying landforms on the map, sketching the scenery — the way I often start the journey toward a finished piece. Then we headed back to the workshop in Sheffield, where he documented the quieter side of that process: piercing metal, soldering, shaping. It was a brilliant day of movement, making, and muddy shoes — and Alec’s photos tell that story beautifully.

This project really brought full circle how closely linked my jewellery and silverwork are with my life outdoors. Running on the hills brings me joy, sparks ideas, and gives me a deep connection to the landscapes I later translate into metal.

Huge thanks to Alec for his vision, patience, and excellent hill-wrangling skills — I couldn’t be happier with the images, and I’m excited to start sharing them.

You can find more of Alec’s work on his website and Instagram.
