Peak District marked with the Pennine Way Trail
I recently had the pleasure of creating a very special version of my Peak District National Park map, one that tells a quiet, personal story through the shape of the land.
This bespoke piece was made for a couple who share a deep connection to the Peaks. Not only is it where they’ve made their home, but it’s also where they set off, years ago, on their first long-distance walk together, the Pennine Way, just after finishing university.
The base of the piece is a sculptural map of the Peak District, formed from a flat sheet of metal, with each contour carefully cut and shaped to bring the landscape into three dimensions. For this version, we added two custom touches:
An 18ct gold granule marking the exact spot of their home within the Park, subtle but precious.
A dotted engraved line tracing the start of the Pennine Way trail, a gentle arc across the surface that remembers the beginning of something bigger.
It was such a lovely commission to work on, bringing together place, memory, and shared adventure in a way that’s both personal and timeless. These are the kinds of projects I love most: when maps become more than geography, and objects become part of someone’s story.
